Which helps explain why they're in contention.

Because Ryan Howard is a God

In case you were wondering, loser Mets fans, this historic ball would land 505 feet later. Historic, because it brings me one closer to hitting the Bellagio sports-book home-run-champ ticket, yo.

Oh Glorious Day!

The 26-year-old multimillionaire was sentenced to 45 days for the 2006 probation violation, but only served about half the term, gaining credit for good behavior.

"She has fulfilled her debt to society and it's now concluded." said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

This week's column ...

Can be found here. Enjoy. Will be taking a long non-computer weekend since I'll be out of town Friday for next week's column.

Go Cubs.

And hey, while I'm at it, why not plug an entertaining new site I stumbled onto. As you can tell from the photo, it's about hot chicks with douchebags. Like this hot chick, and her douchebag friend. The site's name? Hot chicks with douchebags.

Keepin' 'em off the pole

You knew this f'in day was coming:

First it was cocaine. Then it was steroids. Now it's clear that America's ballplayers have fallen victim to another insidious epidemic.

Contrary to the theory that athletes don't like playing on artificial surfaces, strippers have become the drug of choice for the sporting set.

Hey bro piece, it ain't just athletes. And, um, well, I'll let you read the rest here.

This week

So, I caved in and set up a myspace page. Doubt I'll use it that much, but what the hell; go ahead and add me if you have one as well.

Anyway, here's a hint as to this week's column, which'll be online later today and on newsstands tomorrow. A bit of a change from last week, fo sho.

A customer for life

Mmm, tequila.

ANTIOCH, Calif. - Kim Mayorga was confused when her 2-year-old started making funny faces and pushing away the apple juice he had ordered at Applebee’s. The explanation came when she opened the lid of the sippy cup and was hit by the smell of tequila and Triple Sec.

This week

As promised, here's this week's piece on It's Always Sunny. But, be sure to check out Bell Curve as well; I think the anonymous folks behind B.C. did one hell of a job this week.
And finally, shades of Carlton Haselrig in Rome.

The Road to the Super Bowl... coming through Philly, bitches. And not just because Donovan's back early...

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Donovan McNabb took a major step forward in his return from knee surgery, practicing with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday several weeks ahead of schedule.

...but because the Birds are the only team that could mount a legitimate challenge to the Broncos on their return to the top of the pile.

Go Birds, Cubs, Broncos, Phils and the Philippines.

Strippers with knives

Now, I understand most of this piece, like the need to forcibly heist sneakers, and how there's a Collingswood tie, of course, but I'm left to wonder one thing:
Who, exactly, is in the lunch crowd at a Brooklawn adult bookstore?

By Sam Wood
Inquirer Staff Writer
A knife-wielding stripper attacked two coworkers yesterday at an adult bookstore in Camden County, sending two dancers to the hospital with severe lacerations to their backs and buttocks, police said.

Natasha Giberson, 26, arrived with a companion at the Carnival Adult Book Store on Route 130 in Brooklawn shortly before noon, police said.

They stormed into the dressing room and confronted two dancers who were preparing to go on stage for the lunch crowd, said Sgt. Steven Saymon, spokesman for the Brooklawn police.

Giberson, who was not scheduled to entertain until 6 p.m., accused the two dancers of stealing a pair of sneakers from her locker over the weekend, Saymon said.

The argument grew heated. According to authorities, Giberson drew a folding knife. As her companion, Jennie Santos, 23, grappled with the dancers, Giberson slashed repeatedly at their shoulders, backs, buttocks and thighs, Saymon said.

Leaving the dancers bleeding in the dressing room, Giberson and Santos fled and drove home to Collingswood, authorities said. Shortly after, Collingswood police arrested them, Saymon said.

The dancers were rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where they were treated for deep cuts.

Giberson and Santos were each charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Giberson, who was also charged with weapons offenses, was held last night on $71,000 bail at the Camden County jail. Santos, who Giberson said was her legal wife, was held on $50,000 bail, Saymon said.

The sneakers have not been found.

Sunny pics

(Special thanks to digphilly's Teresa Masterson for helping me break the golden rule of journalism: Though Shall Not Be A Fan Of Those You Cover.)

It was quite sunny

So, yesterday, I got to hang out on the set of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as they were in town filming scenes for their upcoming season. (It starts in September. You should watch it.)
I'll have a bunch more to say about it in my column next week - speaking of which, here's a link to this week's, along with a couple other stories - but suffice it to say, most of you will enjoy the story. Since it involves blow, and horses running free through Center City. Here's a shot I took with my handy cell camera of Danny DeVito taking pictures of people taking pictures of him while Glenn Howerton and David Hornsby work out a scene on Market Street. Much more to come next week.

One Year Anniversary

Well, just happened to notice that it's one year to the day since I started this here lil blog. I'd like to think the world's a much better place today than it was on June 5, 2006. But I'd be wrong. So who cares.
Anyway, thanks to those of you responsible for the 5,468 hits I've received on here.
Here's my gift to you, my preciouses. It puts the lotion on its skin, then it watches Jame Gumb again.

Phillip Wellman: American Hero

UPDATE: The Man apparently decided that what this true patriot did was worthy of punishment. To which I say YOU deserve punishment, The Man.

I just wish he'd have saluted when he walked through the outfield walls, but either way, Mr. Wellman provided us with the, and I mean THE, finest moment in sports history.
