Happy Feb. 28!

Well, the countdown continues but since it's also a Wednesday, here's a hint as to what this week's column is about, and who this week's Cocktails With is, well, with. Keep hope alive!

26 February 2007

Tuesday, or 18 days. Which can only mean one thing

It's not exactly a tip, dames. More like some loaner bills

In related Vegas news, Pacman Jones has, out of nowhere mind you, risen into the Irvin stratosphere. A lovely detail from an AP story on the melee his crew caused at an LV strip joint over NBA All-Star weekend:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Police seized $81,020 in cash belonging to pro football player Adam "Pacman" Jones, which they said sparked a melee and a triple shooting at a strip club over the weekend, court documents show.

Jones, a cornerback with the Tennessee Titans, was showering more than 40 strippers onstage at Minxx Gentlemen's Club & Lounge early Monday with the cash "intended as a visual effect," according to a search warrant. But a scuffle broke out when the Houston promoter who hired the strippers told them to pick the money up.

If I have this right, Pacman intended to retrieve the cash after showering the 40 ladies with it? My. Man.

In unrelated news, Eleuterio now wants to go to Minxx directly from the airport.

Meet Mayor Street

... the real one, Milton, who says if elected, he'll legalize herb. Dwight Evans, too. As in meet him, not that he'll legalize herb. As far as I know, at least.

Fight Club

So, Floyd Mayweather and Oscar de la Hoya had a press conference in town this morning to start what will undoubtedly the hyped-est, marketed-est fight in quite some time. They actually got into a bit of a seemingly unscripted pushing match a few seconds after I snapped this trusty cell-phone camera picture.

To some of you, it's Wednesday. To others, it's ....

20 February 2007

Tick, tock

Well, if you're from Philly, you already know who I'll be writing about this week so I won't waste your time with any hints. But if you're not from Philly, well, you're in for one hell of a treat. Go Cubs.

16 February 2007

Lo Siento

It's been a few days, I know. And I feel woefully bad about this. But in my defense, well, it did snow a little bit. So anyway, this week's column commemorates Black History Month, if commemorate can be taken to mean slams the city for enabling murder. Also, cocktails with Michael Nutter, he who would be mayor.

In some rather exciting news, the Mayor's brother declared he's running for mayor in May. A lot of M's there, I know. But one of the best stories. Ever. (Bet you can't guess what I'll probably be writing about next week.)

13 February 2007

32 Days

Not a bad view.

09 February 2007

And the countdown continues

08 February 2007

Today's lesson: Stay away from crazy astronaut chicks

It's that time of the week again: First, for the column that'll likely get me bugged, or followed, and onto the cocktails with Chaka Fattah. Not to mention, DN photo Dave Maialetti who, thanks to Rego's tip, I learned had me as background on his photo blog.
And by way of intra-media congratulations giving, if you want to read more about the Fumo thing, the Inquirer's coverage has been outstanding.

06 February 2007

39 days

Ok, so I was a couple points off with my 27-18 pick (a field goal's worth, actually), but by hitting both the spread and the under, I staved off a loss for the season. Whoo is me.

Overall, for the season:
Spread: 127-127-7
O/U: 141-116-3
Total: 268-243-10

(Factor in the vigs on 50s, and that translates to about, oh, a $15 win over the past 19 weeks. Which, in Baltimore, translates to a week's worth of ointment, as LBR can attest.)

Fun while it lasted, but I gots some work to do before I can leave gainful employment and become a taut, that's for sure (though I did thrive on the best bets). For now, though, it's time to turn my energies toward college hoops and state Sen. Vince Fumo's indictment, which it seems will be announced at a morning press conference over at the U.S. Attorney's Office. (Check the Clog for updates later if you're so inclined.)

04 February 2007

A coincidence?

On the day they play Super Bowl 41, it's 41 days till Vegas?

03 February 2007

Fuzzball laughed it up

'You can't tell this wookie what to do'

You say you want a proposition...

... or 50. Well, here are some for tomorrow's Super Bowl. But first, my chance to break even on the spread for the year. And to do so, I'm taking Indy minus 7. With very little confidence, since Manning's a choker, and I usually like the dogs. I also love the under 49.

01 February 2007

This week's column ...

... as hinted at yesterday, played off of one I wrote back in July wondering why people care more about a friggin' horse than their fellow man, woman or trannie. Except, this time, it's bringing in more than just Philly's murder victims. It's talking about genocide.
And, cocktails at a fancy Center City bar with embattled City Councilman Frank DiCicco (That story comes complete with a Big Daddy Graham shout-out.)
